The Whitewashed Wonder of Chaweng Beach

SALA Samui, Chaweng Beach, Thailand

Ko Samui is home to several luxury hotels that have capitalized on the natural beauty of Thailand's second-biggest island, fraught with coconut groves and palm-fringed beaches. But the SALA Samui Resort in Chaweng Beach is one of the most blissful and accommodating. Situated on the northeast side of the island, planted directly on a coveted beach locale, the resort conjures visions of balmy breezes and crystal-clear waters. It's an ideal destination that caters to beach bums, intrepid explorers, and tourists alike, affording free kayaks and paddleboards to glide across the placid waters, as well as a conveniently centralized location near the local markets.

Perhaps the most apparent aspect of the resort is its sun-bleached design and modernist curved alcoves. Enter through the garden wing and you're immediately greeted by a sleek, contemporary lobby adorned with clean lines and light tones of white and sand brown. The main lobby is an equally sharp, open-air space with a dynamic ceiling pointing towards the horizon vista. That simple yet lavish aesthetic characterizes its Moon Pool as well, where a large, beachfront deck of refined wood hosts double-sized daybeds and a round, oversized swimming pool at its center.

Suites & Villas

Eighty-two suites and villas are available across nine stylish variations, nearly all featuring their own private pool. Each demonstrates a stylish combination of simple arches, floor-to-ceiling glass, and minimalism. The Oceanfront SALA Pool Villa is certainly one of the most charming, boasting an outdoor tub, rich wood paneling, and high, white walls for privacy. One of the resort's largest residences, the 286 square meter Oceanfront Presidential Pool Villa, includes a capacious living room that leads to an outdoor dining room, a 52 square meter pool, and a sunbathing deck overlooking the ocean. Across from the Oceanfront Wing, the 329 square meter, Two-Bedroom Grand Villa is ideal for families, showcasing a shared living room, a large outdoor area with a garden, and a spiral staircase that leads to an upper floor with a balcony.

Wine & Dine

There’s no shortage of interesting settings in which to wine and dine at SALA. The Treehouse Restaurant and Bar hosts both indoor and outdoor dining for Garden Wing guests, serving Thai food and Western dishes in a striated scene of white, navy blue, and Japanese ash. Just steps from the beach, The Tent presents freshly caught seafood beneath a canvass roof, bark paneling, and simple décor. For happy hour, The Beach Bar provides exotic mixes of jackfruit and coconut between the pool and the shoreline. But for those who prefer to eat in a more private space, the resort offers in-room dining from 6AM to 10AM, as well as an in-room floating breakfast, so you can enjoy home-baked croissants and freshly squeezed juice within your private pool. You can also host your own private barbeque on the beach and receive afternoon tea anywhere.

The SALA Spa

The SALA Spa may be the most aesthetically pleasing section in the resort. It’s a calming, chic space with contrasting turquoise walls and smooth Japanese ash that fully embraces the minimalistic. Located near the lobby, six massage and treatment facilities, each named after a planet in the solar system, are equipped with soothing bathtubs, a shower, and twin spa beds. Guests can enjoy a vast selection of massages, blissful salt scrubs, body wraps, and detoxes. The professional spa therapists use exclusively natural products from Dii Skincare and Plus Q, while their signature massage blends four different styles: Swedish, Hawaiian, Lomi Lomi, and Balinese. With the SALA Spa Retreat Package, you can experience three full days of pampering, including daily breakfast, healthy drinks, and lunch for two. The spa also offers the SALA Active program, consisting of daily Yoga classes held by the Moon Pool.
